Klein College of Media and Communication boasts many alumni who are rising stars in their respective fields.
One such alumnus is Jesse Dimich-Louvet, KLN ‘24, who upon graduating completed a six-month internship with France 24 before working as a production assistant for NBC News during the 2024 Paris Olympics. He then returned to France 24 as an editor, production assistant and guest booker to help cover world elections.
France 24 is a 24/7 international news network that broadcasts in French, English, Arabic and Spanish. Dimich-Louvet appeared as a reporter on the show, covering Super Bowl 59, the youth vote in 2024 United States elections and the TikTok ban in the U.S.
Dimich-Louvet is from Montana and lived in Paris for some time. He was recruited to run cross-country and track at Temple University but stepped away after his first year to explore more of what Klein College had to offer.
“For me, coming from Montana, [being in North Philadelphia] was a big change. I had Klein [College] there to support me,” said Dimich-Lovet. “David Mindich, Dean Boardman, Matt Fine, Denise James, all these people that were in my corner helping me, I thought that was really fantastic. I’m always thinking about Klein [College] and these professors.”
While at Temple, Dimich-Louvet took advantage of the many student media opportunities Klein College offers. He was the tennis and field hockey beat reporter for The Temple News, and covered sports and politics on WHIP Radio. He spent most of his time working with OwlSports Update, a weekly program under Temple University Television, as a production assistant, cameraman, reporter and, eventually, an anchor.
“Jesse was one of those guys who always had questions and always wanted to learn. Not just about the sports or person he was covering, but also about the different ways he could cover them,” said Fine, associate professor of practice and the creator and executive producer of OwlSports Update. “He really enjoyed telling other people’s stories.”
Though Dimich-Louvet was always interested in sports, he didn’t care much for Philadelphia sports before becoming a Klein College student. However, his time in the city showed him how special the relationship Philadelphia fans have with their teams.
“When you come to Philadelphia, you really know how important it is for everyone,” said Dimich-Louvet. “That was really cool to see.”
As a guest booker for France 24, Dimich-Louvet was tasked with finding a player from the National Football League to appear on the show to talk about Super Bowl 59. Unable to find a guest in time, he offered to go himself. He knew how important the Philadelphia Eagles are to the city, and it was a moment for him to reflect on his time while in school.
“It was fun to get to be part of that moment for Philadelphia history,” said Dimich-Louvet.
Dimich-Louvet’s first time on air for France 24 was actually for politics, not sports. He covered how young people in the U.S. were voting in November 2024. He previously reported on this for Assistant Professor of Practice Denise James’s Philadelphia Neighborhoods II class, News Beat. Much of the footage he captured for Philadelphia Neighborhoods appeared as B-roll on his France 24 segment.
“That sort of signaled a little bit of a full circle moment, getting to speak about Temple in that scenario,” said Dimich-Louvet.
Dimich-Louvet also appeared on air to talk about the TikTok ban in the U.S. earlier this year. Being part of Generation Z, he was a user of the app and knew how significant it was to the world of social media and content.
“There’s just so much misinformation,” explained Dimich-Louvet. “I’m sure you’ve had your fair share of professors talking about the dangers of misinformation, the dangers of social media. [There’s] also how helpful social media can be, in getting people democratizing information and having it be more accessible and attainable.”
After the election season was over, Dimich-Louvet moved from France 24 to Euronews in Brussels. He wants to continue in broadcast, whether that’s covering sports or politics.
No matter the path he takes, Dimich-Louvet is poised to make his mark on the world.
“We’ll see what’s in store next,” said Dimich-Louvet. “I guess the future will talk.”
